New South Wales (NSW) state said in a report that unvaccinated individuals have 16-fold higher likelihood of needing intensive care or dying from COVID-19. Officials urged people to get vaccinated as Australia moves towards living with the virus.
Data from NSW health department revealed that only 11% of the people from among the 412 who died during the Delta outbreak over four months were fully vaccinated. The average age of people who died was 82 years. Only 3% of those in intensive care units had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, and over 63% of the 61,800 cases detected from June 16 through October 7 were not vaccinated.
These findings are in accord with the data that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released in September stating that unvaccinated people were 11 times more likely to die from COVID compared to the fully vaccinated… (Reuters, November 9, 2021)
